Hardware and the man who owns it: A local treasure If
you have ever met Maurice "Moe" Fieldstein,
you would understand why
thousands of customers have flocked to his store every year
since 1962. Friendly and sincere, Moe Fieldstein always puts
the customer first.
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting his hardware store
in Longmeadow, MA. Shelves were stocked neatly, with all
the latest items. What I also noticed was that Moe Fieldstein
carried many hard-to-find items. I asked longtime
customer of 25 years, Bill Woods of Woods Professional Painting,
why he came to Brightwood Hardware for so many years. His
reply was that he comes for the convenience, friendly service,
and items that are not stocked at the other hardware stores.
Moe Fieldstein must be pretty good to work for, too. Dick
Skinner, Moe's store manager, has been with Moe for over
50 years. Brightwood Hardware has been in business since
1921, and this is only the second generation of ownership.
That might be some kind of world record.
If you're ever in the Greater Springfield area, and you
ever need anything from light bulbs to cat food, be sure
to stop by and see Moe Fieldstein. You will be glad you did!
